The department provides teaching of professional subjects in the field of building construction, primarily teaching of construction itself, including building reconstructions, and supporting disciplines such as building materials, building and structural physics, technical building equipment, construction execution, and partly also construction economics. The department focuses on the complex issues of building construction design and building construction planning. Lectures emphasize a general overview of the field and consistently use the natural science disciplines necessary for understanding the given issue as an instrument. In the exercises, the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to construction work is developed.
The department also provides teaching of all subjects in English.
As part of its professional activities, the department (Ing. Jana Košťálová, Ph.D.) provides consultations in the area of supporting the creation of a barrier-free environment and accessibility in buildings, on roads and publicly accessible areas. The center provides professional consultations and issues opinions within the entire construction procedure and pre-approval inspections of the building according to valid national legislation. It assesses architectural and technical barriers, including proposals for technical solutions that respect the specific requirements of people with limited mobility and orientation.
All members of the department actively participate in TUL's sustainable activities. The department also plays a major role in creating TUL's Sustainable Development Strategy and applying its principles.
In the winter semester of 2025_26, it will launch and guarantee a new master's degree course in Sustainable Construction.
It participated in the organization of a university-wide workshop – TUL Sustainable – 1. 10. 2025.
