The department provides education for students of architecture and urban planning, primarily in the scope of load-bearing structures of buildings and, depending on the needs of students, also in the field of engineering structures, such as footbridges and bridges.

The focus of the department's education lies in bachelor's studies, the basic subject is Statics of Building Structures. In addition to basic teaching of theoretical statics, we also emphasize introducing students to the basics of designing load-bearing structures using computer programs. To a lesser extent, the department's staff also participate in teaching in the master's and doctoral study programs.

The department has specialists in fields such as building foundations, concrete, masonry, steel and wooden structures. Most of the department's teachers are significantly involved in solving practical problems in designing load-bearing structures of buildings both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
