Academic activities (Universities and research institutions)
The Regional Contact Center is a workplace that ensures cooperation between the Faculty of Arts and Architecture of TUL and external partners in the Czech Republic and abroad. The aim of the RKC's activities is to build professional networks and develop cooperation with external partners, involve other academic and research workplaces in joint projects with the FUA TUL and work with foreign institutions. We monitor, communicate and participate in current global trends in research and practice in the field of architecture and urban planning.
Cooperation with the public (Municipalities and private entities)
A significant activity of the RKC is to offer cooperation to our students of master's and bachelor's degree programs on specific architectural, urban or artistic assignments that students can work on as part of their semester work. The cooperation is intended for public or private entities such as municipalities, cities, regions, private clients and others. As part of our cooperation with partners, we will compile an assignment for students based on a joint discussion that reflects the requirements of the client and is understandable for students and their semester work.
Students will then work on the assignment during the semester under the guidance of experienced studio managers who communicate with the client throughout the work. The clients are therefore present throughout the design process. The result of the cooperation is student work that the client will receive. The outputs serve primarily to verify the intention and trigger a public or internal discussion on the given topic. They can be used as a basis when awarding architectural and urban planning competitions or orders for artistic interventions in public spaces. The outputs are primarily graphic and textual documentation or physical models, which can be used to demonstrate the intention of the assignment in a discussion before the professional and lay public.
RKC is a paid service that provides relevant outputs to the client. It is not a replacement for architectural studies or other stages of construction documentation and serves primarily to verify the intention and broaden the perspective on the assignment itself.
Architecture
Our students prepare verification studies of architectural concepts for clients outside the academic environment. Under the guidance of practicing architects, students prepare architectural designs including operational, architectural and basic construction and technical solutions for individual projects commissioned by external entities. Thanks to the free academic environment, students can design freely based on the client's assignment. With their unconventional approach and view of the resulting architecture, they can broaden the client's horizons and add some aspects for subsequent architectural requirements for the project itself.
Urbanism
We offer proposals for urban solutions for urban structures according to the assignment. The work is prepared by students in the context of the surrounding urban development, transport connections and with regard to the existing spatial plan. The outputs include primarily urban models and drawing documentation with a detailed research of the given location. Our students have experience with both large urban areas and smaller municipalities that solve specific urban challenges in connection with their character.
Art in public space
A significant element in public space are works of art set in the context of a given environment. Students enter public space in a creative way through artistic interventions and place a permanent or temporary installation in the given environment. In public space, there is a growing demand for improving the quality of living spaces and raising their quality. This is precisely the role that artistic interventions play in most European cities, which can communicate with the appearance of the city and its impact on its inhabitants.
